To change a Fichet 787 or F3D lock cylinder to a monobloc version, here are the steps to follow. It's important to note that Fichet locks are often high-security, so make sure you have the necessary equipment before you start.
Equipment required:
- A new Fichet 787 or F3D cylinder
- Screwdrivers
- Your lock key (for ease of handling)
Steps to follow:
Open the door:
Make sure the door is open before you start dismantling. This will give you better access to the lock and prevent any jamming.
Remove the cylinder fixing screw:
Remove accessories (handle, covers on surface-mounted locks)
On the side of the lock (usually behind a cover), there is a fixing screw that holds the cylinder in place. Use a screwdriver to remove this screw.
Behind this screw you will find a washer which you will need to lower slightly with a screwdriver.
With the door open, insert the key and make 2 turns in the closing direction and the central bolt will come out of its housing.
Be careful not to undo the mechanism on Fichet A2p 3 star locks.
Remove the cylinder:
Once the bolt has been removed, pull the cylinder to release it from its housing. If the cylinder is stuck, it is sometimes useful to slightly lift the release part with a screwdriver to free it.
Inserting the new cylinder :
Take the new Fichet 787 or F3D cylinder and insert it into the lock housing. Make sure it is properly aligned, then turn the key in the cylinder a quarter turn in the closing direction and replace the central bolt at the same time turn the key in the opening direction.
Fixing the cylinder :
Replace the fixing screw you removed and tighten it to hold the cylinder in its housing.
Testing the lock :
Test that the cylinder works correctly by inserting the key and turning to check that it opens and closes the door correctly.

To maintain a Fichet 787 (or F3D) lock cylinder, it's important to follow a few key steps to ensure it works properly and lasts longer. Here are the tips to follow:
1. Regular lubrication
Recommended products: Use specific lock lubricants, such as Teflon-based or graphite powder lubricants. Avoid oil- or silicone-based lubricants, as they can attract dust and damage the mechanism.
Application: Apply a small amount of lubricant to the lock by inserting the tip of the spray or bottle into the key hole, then turn the key several times to distribute the lubricant evenly throughout the cylinder. This will reduce friction and prevent premature wear.
2. Cleaning
Prevent the build-up of dust and dirt: If you notice any blockages or difficulty in turning the key, you can try cleaning the cylinder. Use compressed air (available from specialist shops) to blow away any dust and dirt that has accumulated in the lock.
Beware of damp: If your cylinder is exposed to damp conditions, such as outdoors, be sure to dry it thoroughly if water enters the mechanism.
3. Key inspection
Check the condition of your keys: Worn or damaged keys can prevent the cylinder from working properly. If a key is bent or shows signs of severe wear, it should be replaced or rekeyed. A damaged key can also damage the cylinder pins.
4. Preventive maintenance
Regular turning: Even if you don't use the lock very often, it's a good idea to turn the key at regular intervals to prevent the mechanisms from seizing up or jamming over time.
Frost protection: If you are in a cold region, protect your Fichet cylinder from frost. Moisture combined with cold can damage the mechanism. Use an anti-freeze spray specially designed for locks if necessary.
5. Check internal components
If your lock shows signs of malfunction (key difficult to turn, lock jamming), it may be necessary to call in a professional locksmith to inspect and possibly replace the pins or other internal components of the cylinder.
6. Protection against attempted break-ins
Fichet 787 and F3D cylinders are high security models, but it is always a good idea to ensure that the cylinder is not exposed to attempted break-ins. Use a cylinder protector if necessary to make it difficult for burglars to gain access.
Summary of steps :
Lubricate with a suitable product.
Clean regularly (blower, compressed air).
Inspect keys for wear.
Turn the key regularly.
Protect against damp and frost.
If necessary, consult a professional for in-depth maintenance.
By following these recommendations, you will ensure the longest possible life for your Fichet 787 or F3D cylinder while maintaining effective security.
